Ukraine to build 6200 apartments for social housing

A pilot project for the construction of social housing has been launched in Ukraine, under which it is planned to build 6,200 apartments. This was announced by Olena Shulyak, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Local Governance and Urban Development, leader of the Servant of the People party. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine through the Recovery Agency, and its geography covers about 10 regions of the country.

According to Shulyak, these first steps will help to partially solve the problem of internally displaced persons and people whose homes were destroyed or damaged during the war. However, in her opinion, these initiatives do not solve all the problems in the housing sector. In addition, to implement the project, the parliament must adopt a number of legislative acts, including a law on the basic principles of housing policy and a law on the social housing fund.

The MP also stressed that there is virtually no social housing fund at the local community level in Ukraine. For this purpose, it is necessary to create special funds in each community, which involves not only new construction but also the repair of old buildings, inventory of long-term construction and their re-equipment in accordance with modern standards.
