For the first time, Ukraine allocated funds from auctions for commercial fishing to stock water bodies

For the first time, the funds received from auctions for the right to commercially fish have been transferred to the state budget of Ukraine to finance the stocking of water bodies. This was announced by Vitaliy Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food. Previously, such revenues were directed exclusively to local budgets.

The new budget programme ‘Measures for the introduction of aquatic bioresources into fishery water bodies’ has already received UAH 3.38 million. These funds were raised from the sale of rights for the special use of aquatic bioresources in 2025. According to Koval, this will help restore fish populations, increase water productivity, preserve biodiversity and stimulate the production of fish stock.

‘This is a landmark step for aquaculture. Financing will become the basis for renewing the raw material base of industrial fisheries and biological reclamation,’ the minister said. He also noted that the change in the financial mechanism will contribute to the systemic development of the industry at the state level, which was previously impossible due to the localisation of resources in the regions.
