In order to overcome the shortage of staff caused by the war, the Ukrainian government has launched an ambitious programme to retrain women, reports Taras Melnychuk, the Cabinet of Ministers’ representative in parliament. Over the next two years, the state will organise training in more than 30 professions traditionally considered ‘male’.
Employers are increasingly interested in recruiting women for positions such as machine operators, heavy machinery drivers, electricians, car mechanics and others. This initiative will not only contribute to a rapid economic recovery, but will also allow women to expand their professional opportunities and get better-paid jobs.
The programme was initiated by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the State Employment Centre. The retraining of women is expected to partially close the shortage of 4.5 million workers currently observed in the Ukrainian labour market.
