The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has announced the establishment of a Youth Council at the Ministry, a new consultative and advisory body that will actively involve young people in the formation and implementation of the state environmental policy. The Council’s aim is to prepare proposals and recommendations from the youth on environmental initiatives and to inform the public about the Ministry’s activities.

Youth Council: An Important Step Towards Involving Youth in Environmental Policy
Ukraine’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Svitlana Hrynchuk, emphasized the importance of establishing the Youth Council to engage active young people in environmental policy processes. According to her, youth represents the most progressive ideas and views on the future, and their participation in the development of environmental policy is crucial.
“Youth is an integral part of Ukraine’s future, and it is youth who hold the most progressive ideas about what lies ahead. The creation of the Youth Council at the Ministry is an opportunity for active young people to participate in the implementation of environmental policy. Moreover, last year, Ukraine joined the Declaration on Children, Youth, and Climate Action. The Youth Council will become a hub for new projects, constructive discussions, partnerships, fresh ideas, and a place of strength for like-minded individuals,” said the Minister.
Participation Requirements and Candidate Selection
The Youth Council is open to Ukrainians aged 18 to 35. It will include representatives of youth public organizations, student self-government bodies from higher education institutions, and other organizations working in the field of environmental policy development.
An active involvement in public life is a key requirement for participation in the selection process. The selection of candidates will be carried out through a competition organized by a commission, which was approved by the Ministry’s order on November 5, 2024, No. 1404.
Structure and Term of Office
The Youth Council at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources will consist of up to 20 members, and the term of office for its members will be 2 years. The Council will operate on a voluntary basis and free of charge. The main form of work will be meetings, which will take place at least once a quarter.

To participate in the selection process, candidates must fill out an application form, which can be found via a link on the Ministry’s official website. The deadline for submitting applications is 12:00 on November 30, 2024.
