Ukraine has launched a joint project with Finland called UFAIR, aimed at improving air quality. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk, announced this on her Facebook page.
Project and its goals
Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that this large-scale project is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine and the Finnish Meteorological Institute, with support from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is a logical continuation of cooperation that has been ongoing since 2017. The total budget of the project is 2 million euros.
Responsiveness and quality management
The project will allow Ukraine to respond more quickly to challenges such as wildfires, enemy shelling, emergencies, and deteriorating air quality. The main goal is to develop air quality management in accordance with EU standards. In addition to modern equipment, Ukrainian specialists will receive expert assistance from their Finnish colleagues to adapt monitoring to EU directives.
Improving the ecological situation
The implementation of the project will help provide citizens with accurate information about the state of air quality and improve the ecological situation in Ukraine. The project involves the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the Kyiv City State Administration, the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, as well as the regional state administrations of Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, and Lviv.
Expression of gratitude
Svitlana Hrynchuk emphasized the importance of partnership with Finnish experts, stating that “the environment knows no borders.” She thanked Finland for its immense support in advancing Ukraine’s environmental agenda on the global stage and expressed hope for continued cooperation.
