The State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Artistic Education announces the M.V. Gogol Prize 2025 competition

The State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Artistic Education has announced the competition for the M.V. Gogol Prize 2025. This prize is awarded annually on the writer’s birthday—April 1—to citizens of Ukraine for the best literary and artistic works that follow the traditions of M.V. Gogol’s creativity, enriched with concepts of historical novel writing, mysticism, and satire, and that affirm national self-identification.

Monetary award

The monetary award for the prize is 20,000 hryvnias.

Participation conditions

New original works by authors or groups of authors published (made public) in completed form within the last three years are eligible for the prize, but not later than one month before their nomination. Works that have already been awarded other prizes or state awards are not eligible.

Proposals for candidates for the prize should be submitted to the State Agency by creative unions, literary and artistic associations, national educational societies, editorial offices of periodicals, publishing houses, public organizations in the field of literature, as well as by individual authors.

Submission dates

From November 1, 2024, to February 1, 2025, the following documents must be submitted to the State Agency in both paper and electronic form:

  1. A request for the award in any form.
  2. A brief description of the work, along with a biography of the author(s) (full name, date and place of birth, contact phone number, email address).
  3. A creative description of the candidate provided by the submitting entity.
  4. A written consent from the candidate(s) for their work to be nominated for the prize.
  5. Copies of the document verifying the candidate’s identity and the registration number of their taxpayer identification card or passport.
  6. A written consent for the processing of personal data in accordance with the Law of Ukraine on “Personal Data Protection.”
  7. A copy of the work and an electronic version with confirmation of its publication.
  8. Copies of media reviews on the presented literary and artistic work and any available critiques.

Other documents confirming the professional qualities of the candidate may be attached to the request.
