Heating season 2024/25 in Ukraine: status and challenges

The heating season for 2024/25 has begun in Ukraine, marking an important phase in providing heat to socially significant facilities such as healthcare and educational institutions, as well as residential buildings across various regions. As of October 29, over 58% of boiler houses have been put into operation, allowing for heating supply to nearly 30% of residential buildings and 60% of essential social facilities.

Connection Rates

The leaders in connection rates are Volyn Oblast, where nearly 100% of the residential sector and 99% of socially important facilities are connected to heating. Ternopil Oblast is also showing high figures, with 100% of residential buildings and 97% of social institutions receiving heat. Chernihiv Oblast is not far behind, with 96% of residential buildings and nearly 99% of essential social facilities connected.

Challenges in Frontline Areas

Despite the positive results in many regions, the situation remains complex in frontline areas. In certain localities, such as Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast and Slobozhanske in Kharkiv Oblast, deteriorating security conditions and significant damage to critical infrastructure complicate the start of the heating season. This creates additional difficulties in ensuring heating for the population and social institutions.

Monitoring the Process

The State Energy Supervision Authority is actively monitoring the process of connecting heating energy facilities and providing heat to consumers across all regions. Authorities are working to address existing issues to ensure comfortable conditions for the population during this challenging period.

The 2024/25 heating season has begun under challenging circumstances, yet with positive connection rates in many regions. Authorities and relevant agencies continue to strive for improvement to provide warmth for all Ukrainians.
