Wood supply: how regions of Ukraine prepare for winter

As the winter season approaches, regions in Ukraine are actively preparing for the cold by ensuring that the population has access to firewood for heating. Various areas are taking measures to support vulnerable groups and social institutions.

Zakarpattia region

In Zakarpattia, social institutions are 95% supplied with firewood. Local communities are also providing assistance to families in difficult circumstances. For example, the Horynchiv Village Council allocated 315,000 UAH to families of military personnel, while the Kamianska community provided 98,000 UAH to support defenders, people with disabilities, and low-income families.

Chernihiv region

In Chernihiv, residents living within a 10-kilometer zone near the border with Russia receive 21,000 UAH for heating. This affects over 4,000 households in five communities that are regularly subjected to shelling. Part of the assistance, particularly for residents of Semenivka, Snovsk, and Novhorod-Siversky communities, is provided by the Red Cross. Other vulnerable groups in the region also receive firewood or funds to purchase it.

Poltava region

In Poltava, forestry warehouses hold a strategic reserve of firewood—10,000 cubic meters for the population and 5,000 for social institutions. Firewood can be ordered through the online store “Drovaye” or directly from the forestry. Prices for firewood remain at last year’s levels: from 600 to 996 UAH per cubic meter, and with loading and transportation costs—from 1,056 to 1,602 UAH.

Volyn region

The Polissia Forestry Office in Volyn is prepared to supply the population with 138,000 cubic meters of firewood. It can be purchased through the “Drovaye” website or by contacting the forestry. Firewood supplies are consistently available, but delivery depends on equipment availability. A limit of up to 15 cubic meters of firewood per person is imposed for the season.

Preparation for the winter season in Ukraine involves not only ensuring the supply of firewood but also actively supporting vulnerable populations. Regions are implementing various measures to help citizens cope with the challenges of the cold period.
