Bridging the Gender Pay Gap: Steps Toward Equality in Wages

The gender pay gap remains a serious issue in many countries, including Ukraine. This is reported as part of the information campaign “Of Course, You Can!” The program is implemented by UN Women in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Office of the First Lady, with financial support from the Government of Sweden. To overcome this inequality, women can take several important steps.

Know Your Rights

The first and most crucial step is knowing your rights. Women should be aware of legislative guarantees for equal pay and understand how to act in cases of discrimination. If you encounter wage inequality, don’t hesitate to seek legal assistance. This not only protects your interests but also helps eliminate such cases in the future.

Develop Professional Contacts

Building a network of like-minded individuals and participating in mentorship programs can significantly improve access to new opportunities. Engaging in discussions about career prospects and professional development allows you to receive valuable advice and share experiences, which fosters career growth.

Invest in Education

It’s important to invest in education, develop professional skills, and participate in training programs. This provides access to more competitive and higher-paying jobs. Enhancing your skills prepares you for the demands of the modern labor market.

Active Participation in Initiatives

Today, there are numerous initiatives that help women gain experience, from broadening their horizons to changing careers. For instance, only 37% of applications for the Stanford Ignite Ukraine program came from women last year. This indicates that women should actively engage in such initiatives to gain more opportunities for career advancement and business development.

Each of these opportunities represents a chance for women to develop their professional skills and achieve equal conditions in the labor market.
