At the beginning of fall, the labor market in Ukraine is showing record-breaking figures. The number of job vacancies has reached 115,482 on one of the largest employment resources, work.ua, which is the highest figure since the start of the full-scale war. This is reported by the Labor and Employment Inspection of the Dnipro City Council. This record indicates positive trends in the labor market, even amid the country’s challenging situation.
Expansion of Vacancies by Region
In August 2024, employers posted 3% more job vacancies than in July. The growth in the number of vacancies is noted in almost all regions of Ukraine. The Dnipropetrovsk region, which previously led in the number of vacancies, now shares second place with the Lviv region, where the number of job offers increased by 7%. Kharkiv region has returned to the top five with a 4% increase in vacancies, displacing Ivano-Frankivsk region. A noticeable increase in vacancies is also observed in Zakarpattia (+10%), Zhytomyr region (+9%), Rivne region (+8%), and Vinnytsia region (+8%). Less significant growth occurred in Kyiv (+3%) and Odesa (+3%) regions.
Leaders by Sector
Among the sectors showing the most significant growth in job vacancies, education stands out (+27%). This is the second consecutive month that education has led in this indicator. Employers are actively seeking mathematics teachers (+58% compared to July), English teachers (+29%), German language teachers (+24%), educators (+25%), and primary school teachers (+24%). There is also significant growth in vacancies in culture and show business (+23%), as well as in the hotel and restaurant business, tourism, medicine, and pharmaceuticals.
At the same time, the number of vacancies in sales, procurement, transportation, and the auto business has decreased.
Labor Market for Different Categories of Job Seekers
The number of vacancies for veterans has increased (+6% over the month), students (+5%), and people with disabilities (+5%). This is a positive trend corresponding to the overall increase in vacancies. However, remote work opportunities have slightly decreased, indicating that employers are not yet ready to actively implement flexible working conditions.
An important trend is the 16% increase in the number of vacancies with reservation.
Changes in Salaries
The average salary in the labor market continues to rise. In August, the average salary increased by 2.4% to 21,500 UAH. The most significant salary growth is observed in the transportation sector and auto business (+5%). These sectors are also among the least competitive among job seekers.
Among high salaries: international transport drivers earn up to 50,000 UAH, media producers and panel beaters up to 45,000 UAH, and real estate agents up to 40,000 UAH. In Dnipro, earnings in the real estate sector can reach between 60,000 and 120,000 UAH. Auto service masters earn an average of 37,500 UAH, while auto mechanics and auto repair technicians can earn up to 60,000 UAH.
Prospects for the Labor Market
The labor market is entering the traditional high business season of fall. It is expected that the number of job seekers will increase, provided there are no negative impacts from external factors such as mobilization, mass shelling, or power outages.
Overall, the labor market is demonstrating positive trends with growth in vacancies and salaries, which is a good sign for the economy and contributes to improving the situation in the Ukrainian labor market.
