Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) provides comprehensive assistance to internally displaced persons in Ukraine and refugees in Hungary. As a member of the ACT Alliance, it actively works on implementing international aid programs. HIA offers holistic support on both sides of the border for those who have been forced to leave their homes.
Official Name:
Charity Organization “Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA)”
Focus Areas:
Since the onset of the conflict on February 24, Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) immediately mobilized to respond. The organization focused its efforts on hard-to-reach areas where international humanitarian organizations rarely venture, such as Kherson, where combat is ongoing. They provided aid to those in greatest need, offering everything from legal consultations to psychotherapy to support the mental and psychological well-being of Ukrainians.
HIA uses two types of cash assistance for individuals: multi-purpose cash assistance (MPCA), which provides choice and dignity, and “Assess & Assist” financial support for specific needs not covered by MPCA, such as medical expenses.
HIA also initiated flexible small grants (FSG) for organizations involved in humanitarian support in Ukraine, collaborating with local partners to maximize support and enhance the resilience of local communities.
Additionally, HIA has received funding for the reconstruction of schools and medical facilities in Borodyanka, Irpin, and other damaged towns, working with the Hungarian government on targeted construction and repair efforts.
These activities confirm HIA’s commitment to humanitarian aid and support for the Ukrainian people during the crisis.

In Ukraine, HIA has permanent offices including in Zakarpattia Oblast and Kyiv. The organization actively operates across the country, focusing on humanitarian aid, post-crisis recovery, and local partner development.

The organization also plays a significant role in combating COVID-19, providing protective equipment and medical resources to healthcare facilities in Zakarpattia Oblast.
Through its activities, Hungarian Interchurch Aid aims not only to provide urgent humanitarian assistance but also to promote sustainable development and enhance the resilience of local communities in the countries where it operates.
