The fourteenth Child Protection Centre in Ukraine based on the Barnahus model has been opened in Zakarpattia Oblast. Barnahus is a European approach that minimises the re-traumatisation of children who have experienced or witnessed violence.

The opening took place during a round table discussion entitled “Implementation of the Barnahus model for the protection of children who have suffered violence in the Zakarpattia region.” The event was attended by representatives of state bodies, local government, the prosecutor’s office, the National Police, medical and social institutions, and international organisations.
The centre in Zakarpattia Oblast will serve as a safe place where children can be interviewed, receive psychological and social support, and medical assistance — all in one place, without having to visit different institutions. The centre has an interdisciplinary team that provides a comprehensive and child-centred approach.
As of June 2025, there are 14 Barnahus centres operating in Ukraine, 11 of which were opened during the full-scale war. More than 1,300 children have already received assistance at these centres, more than 1,500 procedural actions have been carried out in a safe environment, and dozens of specialists have undergone specialised training.
