Germany to give money to improve forests in Ukraine

Ukraine will continue to receive financial assistance from Germany for the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly forestry. The State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine has extended its cooperation with German company IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH. Thanks to the new agreement, the joint project will last until 2027. During this time, Germany will invest €1.26 million in it.

The project began in autumn 2024 and is being implemented with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and consultants from GFA Consulting Group GmbH. The main goal is to help Ukraine make its forestry sector more modern, efficient and environmentally friendly.

It is about bringing Ukrainian forestry legislation in line with European Union standards. The project will also improve the work of two important institutions: the Ukrderzhlisproekt enterprise, which is involved in forest planning and research, and the state enterprise Forests of Ukraine, which is directly involved in forestry.

According to Mariana Ostrovska, a representative of the State Forestry Agency, the project will help to better collect and analyse information on the state of forests in order to make more informed decisions based on this data. New forestry rules will also be developed – more careful, closer to natural processes, and allowing for the efficient use of forest resources without harming the environment.

This is not the first such cooperation. In 2021, Ukraine and Germany also worked together to modernise the forestry sector, including creating a forest inventory system and providing the necessary equipment.
