Europe’s first training and testing facility specialising in mine action, environmental safety and civil protection has been launched in Lviv Oblast. Its creation was a response to one of the biggest humanitarian threats caused by a full-scale war – massive mining of Ukraine’s territories.
Experts estimate that hundreds of thousands of square kilometres of Ukrainian land remain under threat from mines and explosive devices left by the occupying forces. Without modern demining approaches, it could take decades to return these areas to safety. That is why the launch of the new complex is critical to speeding up and ensuring the safety of this process.
Leading Ukrainian and international experts will test new equipment, conduct training for demining specialists, and improve approaches to working in conditions as close to real combat as possible. The goal is to reduce the risks for deminers and increase their efficiency.
