Ukrainians again demonstrate readiness for long-term resistance – KIIS data

Despite the prolonged nature of the full-scale war, the majority of Ukrainians remain ready to fight for as long as necessary. This is evidenced by the results of a fresh all-Ukrainian survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), conducted from 15 May to 3 June 2025 as part of the Omnibus study.

KIIS sociologists interviewed 1,011 adult respondents in the government-controlled areas of Ukraine by telephone. The sample did not include residents of the temporarily occupied territories, as well as Ukrainians who moved abroad after the start of the full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022. According to the Institute’s experts, even in times of war, the results obtained remain sufficiently representative to assess public sentiment.

According to the survey, 60% of citizens said they were ready to endure the war “as long as necessary”. Another 6% said they would endure it for a year. At the same time, 20% indicated a shorter expectation horizon of up to six months, and 14% were undecided. These figures indicate an increase in resilience compared to March 2025, when only 54% were ready for long-term resistance.

After a decline in support for prolonged resistance in 2024, which reached a low point in autumn, the situation has begun to change in recent months. In March 2025, the share of Ukrainians ready to endure as long as necessary was the lowest in the entire period of observation, but later began to grow.

Regionally, the lowest rate of support for prolonged resistance was recorded in the East – 51%. In other regions, it ranges from 60-62%. The KIIS notes that even in the East, despite the difficult circumstances, the majority of the population is ready for a long struggle, and this readiness has increased since the spring of 2025.

The age breakdown also showed no significant differences – in all age groups, more than half of respondents said they were ready to endure as long as necessary. This indicates broad social consolidation in the issue of resistance to Russian aggression, regardless of age or region of residence.
