Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, thousands of Ukrainian children have been evacuated abroad for security reasons. As of May 2025, 488 of them, who found themselves in difficult life circumstances, have already returned to Ukraine and reunited with their biological families. This was announced by the Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Children Petro Dobromilsky.
According to him, these are not only orphans or those left without parental care, but also children whose families have found themselves in a difficult situation due to the war. The return of each child was made possible through interagency cooperation, a thorough inspection of living conditions and an assessment of the parents’ ability to provide proper care.
“We are convinced that children should grow up at home, in Ukraine, close to their families and in an environment they are familiar with,” said Dobromilsky.
According to him, the return process is not only about logistics, but also about a comprehensive responsibility for the well-being of each child.
