‘Médecins Sans Frontières launches new solution for evacuating wounded in Ukraine

The first medical track of its kind, developed and equipped by the international organisation Médecins Sans Frontières, has been launched in Ukraine. It is capable of evacuating four bedridden patients in serious condition at the same time, providing full medical care during transportation. The team has been working on the launch of this vehicle for about a year, and now it is ready for use.

The new track is equipped with modern resuscitation equipment, including four ventilators, infusion machines, a defibrillator monitor, a pulse oximeter, a portable ultrasound, a haemoglobin analyser and other critical equipment. The vehicle also has space for five medics and two drivers.

This specialised vehicle will be an important tool for evacuating patients from hospitals near the war zone to medical facilities in safer regions. This format allows not only to save lives but also to reduce the burden on hospitals in frontline areas. According to Yevhen Ognevyi, manager of the Médecins Sans Frontières paramedic team in Ukraine, this transport has no analogues in the country and allows for significant savings in both fuel and staff resources.

The medical track complements the organisation’s existing fleet of 21 ambulances. Since 2023, Médecins Sans Frontières has evacuated more than 25,000 patients, most of whom were injured in the hostilities. The new solution allows the organisation to respond even more quickly to the needs of the Ukrainian healthcare system in times of war.
