Swiss company IQAir has published its annual report on global air quality for 2024. The data showed that 19 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are located in Asia, with the Indian city of Birnihat becoming the absolute leader in pollution.
For the sixth year in a row, the Indian capital New Delhi has remained the world’s dirtiest capital. Along with it, six other satellite cities — Faridabad, Loni, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Greater Noida — were included in the ranking. In total, the list includes 13 cities from India, 4 from Pakistan, and one each from China and Kazakhstan.

The only city outside Asia to make the list is N’Djamena, the capital of Chad. According to the study, Chad is the country with the worst air pollution in the world.
The IQAir rating also considers Ukrainian cities. Stryi (Lviv region) has the worst results, ranking 234th among all cities in the world. Chernivtsi, Borova, Protsiv, Zazymia, Mali Dmytrovychi and Ivano-Frankivsk are also among the most polluted Ukrainian cities.
It is noteworthy that the most polluted cities in Ukraine are mostly located in the central and western parts of the country. At the same time, Kyiv also has problems with air pollution.
The cleanest air, according to IQAir, is recorded in Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, Greenland, as well as on the islands of Mauritius, Iceland, and Hawaii.
