The European Youth Forum has announced the start of the application process for the European Youth Capital 2028. Launched in 2009, the initiative aims to increase youth participation in city life, strengthen European identity and support innovative youth projects.
Every year, one city gets the opportunity to become a platform for implementing ideas developed by young people for their peers. As part of this status, communities develop programmes that promote the development of youth initiatives, focusing on youth participation in decision-making, cultural events, and social innovation.
In 2025, Lviv was awarded the title of European Youth Capital for the first time.

The winners of the competition receive recognition at the European level and resource support for project implementation. Municipalities applying for the title are required to cooperate with young people, taking into account their needs and ideas, which helps to strengthen the role of young people in the life of urban communities.
The selection process is carried out by an independent jury, which includes representatives of organisations such as the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. They ensure the transparency and objectivity of the competition.
The deadline for applications is 11 February 2025. Cities interested in becoming a youth capital can apply on the official website of the European Youth Forum.
