Vasyl Stus Prize Winner to Be Announced on September 11

On September 11, Kyiv will host the ceremony announcing the winner of the 2025 Vasyl Stus Prize. The event will begin at 6:00 PM and will be broadcast online on the platforms of PEN Ukraine, Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and the Espreso TV channel. The ceremony will be hosted by journalist and TV presenter Vadym Karpyak.

The prize annually honors writers, artists, directors, musicians, cultural managers, and public figures for their contributions to Ukrainian culture and their steadfast civic positions. The winner will receive a monetary award and a statuette designed by Dmitro Pokrason and sculptor Stanislav Kadochnikov.

This year’s candidates were nominated by a jury that includes philosopher and president of Ukrainian PEN Volodymyr Yermolenko, literary scholars, researchers, publishers, and previous prize laureates.

The Vasyl Stus Prize was established in 1989 by the Ukrainian Association of Independent Creative Intelligentsia, led by Yevhen Sverstyuk. Since 2016, the initiative has been continued by Ukrainian PEN, Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and the publishing house Dukh i Litera. Over more than 30 years, the prize has been awarded to more than 70 Ukrainian artists, including prominent writers, musicians, cultural figures, and civic activists. Last year, the prize was awarded to Tetyana Pylypchuk, director of the Kharkiv Literary Museum.
