Trump supported the idea of allowing Ukrainian refugees to remain in the United States until the end of the war.

US President Donald Trump has stated that he supports Ukrainian refugees remaining in the United States until the end of the war with Russia. This was reported by journalist Alex Raufoglu after speaking with the politician in Washington.

During a press conference, Trump was asked directly whether he would allow Ukrainians fleeing full-scale war to remain in the country until the conflict was over. In response, the US president said: “I think so. We have many people from Ukraine here, and we are working with them”.

Although no official decisions have been made yet, this position may indicate the Trump administration’s willingness, if he is re-elected, to maintain or expand temporary protection for Ukrainians who arrived in the United States after the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.

Currently, the United States has a programme called Uniting for Ukraine, which allows Ukrainians to stay in the country on humanitarian grounds. According to various estimates, more than 170,000 people have already taken advantage of this programme. For many of them, the future remains uncertain, as the programme is temporary and does not guarantee long-term status.

Trump’s statement may influence further discussions on migration policy regarding Ukrainian refugees, particularly in the context of the 2024–2025 presidential campaign, where the issues of the war in Ukraine and refugee policy remain key.
