Professionals who record and reflect on the war in Ukraine can receive a grant of €5,000 as part of the Documenting Ukraine programme. This is one of the key initiatives that supports people who collect, research or artistically interpret war reality – in journalism, art, science and culture.
Journalists working in hot spots and reporting first-hand on events are eligible to apply, as are writers who convey their personal experience of war through fiction or memoir. The programme also supports scholars analysing the effects of war on society, the environment and urban space, as well as translators, archivists, artists and filmmakers working on war-related projects.
Documenting Ukraine is a grant initiative of the Institute for Humanities Research Vienna, which has been operating since the first months of the full-scale invasion and aims to preserve memory, deepen understanding of events, and support those who contribute to the real-time recording of history.
The application deadline is 23:59 (Kyiv time) on 20 July 2025.
