New free online course on European integration launched

The Eastern Europe Foundation, with the financial support of the Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine, has launched a free course “Ukraine’s Accession to the EU” on the educational online platform Zrozumilo!

This course explains the peculiarities of the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, tells about the negotiation clusters, as well as the reforms that our country needs to implement for European integration.

“We are currently facing one of the biggest challenges and opportunities in the history of independent Ukraine – the EU accession negotiations. We have never been so motivated. How we perform now will determine the fate of our country for decades to come. Ukraine is a part of Europe geographically, mentally, and in terms of values. Now we need to ensure the effectiveness of every step on the way to full membership in the European Union as an institution,” said Vira Nedzwiedska, Vice President for Strategic Partnerships at the Eastern Europe Foundation, during the course presentation.

Ukraine’s path to EU membership is predetermined by our country’s historical affiliation with the European community. This process began as soon as Ukraine gained independence and continues to this day. In recent years, our country has made a tangible and decisive leap forward, choosing the course of European integration as the only vector of further development.

“This online course is Ukraine’s step towards European integration. We supported the Eastern Europe Foundation in its creation to help Ukrainians improve their understanding of the European integration process and the fundamental values of the EU in general. Ireland was the first country to support Ukraine from the very beginning. And while the path of reform is always difficult, Ukraine is making good progress. We continue to strengthen the capacity of Ukrainian society on this path and hope that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union in the near future,” said Jonathan Conlon, Ambassador of Ireland to Ukraine, during the presentation of the course.

During the 13 lectures of the course “Ukraine’s Accession to the EU”, the students will be able to:

  • better understand the nuances and stages of the negotiation process
  • learn what reforms are already underway in the country and what reforms still need to be implemented in the future
  • to understand the importance of implementing democratic changes and establishing European values in Ukrainian society

The lectures are accompanied by comments from experts in political science, education, journalism, the public sector, representatives of the Government Office for the Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and the Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine.

The course was led by Marichka Padalko, a TV presenter and journalist. The lecture materials were prepared by the lecturers of the Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Upon successful completion of the course tests, you can receive a certificate confirming 0.2 ECTS credits, or six academic hours, which are counted as self-education.
