The Namsan Library is the first public library in South Korea, founded more than a hundred years ago. Its collection includes more than half a million books, including rare old prints, and more than 1.3 million readers visit the institution every year. From now on, Ukrainian books, including those translated into Korean, are among the publications. These books tell the story of Ukraine’s history, language, traditions and modernity.
During the opening ceremony, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Korea Dmytro Ponomarenko stressed that books help cultures understand each other. The organisers of the project hope that the initiative will help strengthen the cultural dialogue between the Ukrainian and Korean peoples.
Earlier, Ukrainian shelves have already appeared in the Seoul Municipal Library and the Bedari Library in Pyeongtaek. The National Library for Children and Youth of Korea also has a selection of illustrated Ukrainian books for children.
