Shevchuk was one of the key representatives of the Ukrainian cultural movement of the Sixties, a generation of intellectuals who advocated national revival under Soviet censorship. His work includes dozens of novels, short stories, historical studies, and translations that have become an integral part of the Ukrainian literary heritage.
For his family, he was not only a public figure, but above all a father, friend, and wise interlocutor. In a farewell post, the family expressed hope that ‘he will be well there and will meet many of his friends’, as Shevchuk was one of the last representatives of his generation.
The date and time of Valeriy Shevchuk’s funeral will be announced later.
