Kyiv has started creating a barrier-free route from the Central Railway Station to Khreshchatyk and the Main Military Hospital in Pechersk. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration. This initiative is being implemented as part of the government’s Movement Without Barriers project.
During the year, similar routes will be set up in 12 more cities: Odesa, Lviv, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kropyvnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Ternopil, Slavutych, Bucha, and the village of Opishnia.
‘Everything on the routes will be as accessible as possible: from intersections and crosswalks to schools, kindergartens, cafes, and transport. We will introduce tactile markings, navigation signs and other solutions that guarantee people’s comfort and safety,’ the government said in a statement.
There are plans to scale the initiative to other settlements. At the same time, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development is working to update building codes to make them even more accessible to all categories of people.
