Government extends terms of IDP assistance and expands categories of families eligible for payments

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved amendments to the conditions for providing assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs), extending the period of receiving payments to three six-month periods. Previously, IDPs could only receive assistance for two six-month periods, i.e. one year.

In addition, the government has expanded the list of categories of family members whose income will not be taken into account when determining the right to extend IDP payments for the next six months. These categories now include

  • mobilised military personnel;
  • law enforcement officers, servicemen, and employees of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the State Border Guard Service, the State Special Transport Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, rank and file and senior officers of the State Emergency Service, the State Protection Service, the State Special Communications Service and other military formations that participated in national security and defence activities.

An important exception is for individuals and their families who receive compensation for housing costs as IDPs.

These changes allow for the resumption of housing payments to families who previously lost their eligibility due to the high income of a family member serving in the above-mentioned structures. In this way, the government supports internally displaced persons, taking into account the new circumstances of their lives.

The amendments were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine by its Resolution No. 1507 dated 27 December 2024.
