In Kyiv, IDPs will be able to receive subsidies for rent

Starting from 29 January, internally displaced persons (IDPs) who rent housing in the capital will be able to receive a subsidy to cover their rent. This was reported by the Department of Social and Veteran Policy of the Kyiv City State Administration.

The subsidy will be granted to IDPs who have left the occupied territories or combat zones, lost their homes or their houses have become unfit for human habitation. The full list of such territories is available on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The subsidy programme operates similarly to housing subsidies and is designed for families who spend more than 20% of their total income on rent. For families with incomes less than two subsistence minimums per person (UAH 5,840), the state will compensate for most of the rent.

The amount of the subsidy will be determined individually, taking into account the family’s income, the number of family members and the cost of renting the property. In order to receive the subsidy, the landlord and tenant must enter into a Standard Lease Agreement. The state will compensate for taxes related to rental income: Personal income tax and military duty for individuals, and a single tax for individual entrepreneurs.
