How flooding of Christmas trees in Finland is taking the world: a new eco-trend

Finland has started the practice of flooding used Christmas trees in water bodies to improve the microflora, which has attracted interest abroad. This method is used in the regions of Pirkanmaa, Lapland and the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Scientific research by the Environmental Institute has confirmed that flooding Christmas trees has a positive impact on the aquatic environment. In Lake Saimaa, 1,500 Christmas trees were flooded, which contributed to an increase in the number of microorganisms, strengthening the fish population and increasing biodiversity.

Hydrobiologist and study leader Karri-Matti Vuori noted that the Finnish experience has already attracted interest in Canada, where they plan to use this method to improve the microclimate of water bodies after the holidays.
