The Ukrainian Book Institute has published the results of a study on the reading habits of Ukrainian children. The main findings point to certain changes in attitudes towards reading, the influence of the school curriculum and communication in schools.
According to the results, only 7% of children said that they like reading books according to the school curriculum, and 28% said that they rather like it. At the same time, 46% of schoolchildren prefer books of their own choosing. This indicates a high level of interest in literature outside the curriculum.

As for the language environment, the share of Ukrainian language communication in schools has decreased from 76% to 74%, while the share of Russian has increased from 3% to 9%. This reflects changes in the educational space that require further analysis.
According to the survey, only 25% of children read books in their leisure time, which remains at the same level as last year. The most popular activity for children is still communicating with friends – 79%.
Another important aspect is the low level of use of school libraries: only 38% of children borrow books from their school libraries, which may indicate the need to modernise library collections and encourage reading in schools.
