Ukraine is launching a new initiative called eBooks, which will allow young people aged 18 to receive UAH 908 to buy books, Interfax-Ukraine reports. This programme, implemented through the Diia app, will officially start operating on 16 December, said Galina Grigorenko, First Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
‘We hope that the launch will take place on Monday. Bookstores are ready to cooperate under this programme,’ Grigorenko said during a roundtable discussion in Kyiv.

According to the official, 18-year-olds are an important audience in the strategy of reading promotion. At the same time, she stressed that children should be taught to read from an early age, as this habit is formed in the family and at school.
‘If we give a young person the opportunity to buy a book in any format at the age of 18, the foundations of reading are laid much earlier,’ she added.
The eBooks programme is another step by the government to support Ukrainian culture and develop reading literacy among young people. The initiative is also aimed at supporting the domestic book industry, which needs additional incentives in times of war.
