The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Mental Health Care System’ (No. 12030), which provides for a number of significant changes in the field of mental health care in the country.
One of the key innovations of the law is the mandatory establishment of mental health services at enterprises. According to the new legislation:
- Employers with 50 or more employees are required to establish their own mental health service. This service will be responsible for providing psychological support to employees, preventing mental disorders and providing first aid.
- For enterprises with fewer employees (20 to 50 people), the functions of such a service may be performed by part-time employees with appropriate qualifications.
- For enterprises with less than 20 employees, it is possible to engage external specialists on a contractual basis.
The Law also provides for the establishment of the National Commission on Mental Health. This body will monitor compliance with the requirements of the new law and coordinate activities in the field of mental health care.
