More than 40% of teachers in Ukraine plan to leave the profession

According to a large-scale study conducted by the Osvitoria NGO and the FAMA research agency, Ukrainian education is on the verge of a staffing crisis. More than 40% of teachers plan to leave the profession by 2030, and the number of young teachers is rapidly declining.

According to the study, the average age of a Ukrainian teacher is 45, and more than a third of teachers have already reached retirement age. At the same time, only half of the students of pedagogical specialities see themselves as teachers in the future.

The main reasons for this state of affairs are low salaries, excessive bureaucracy, and the lack of appreciation of teacher’s work by society. The full-scale war has exacerbated this problem, causing a 12% reduction in the teaching staff.

According to researchers, Ukraine may face a shortage of 108,000 teachers by 2030. This threatens the quality of education and future generations.

To solve this problem, urgent measures are needed to raise the prestige of the teaching profession, improve the financial situation of teachers and reduce the bureaucratic burden.
