The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine has made an important decision to increase the maximum prices for high-functioning lower limb prostheses for military personnel who have participated in combat operations. This decision came into effect under Order No. 464-n, dated October 11, 2024, and is part of the state program for providing veterans with modern prosthetics.

The price increase is an important step in supporting military personnel who have undergone amputations while performing combat duties. Now, for combat veterans, it will be possible to receive high-functioning prostheses with electronic knee modules from leading global manufacturers such as Otto Bock, Ossur, Proteor, Blatchford, and others—free of charge, as part of the state prosthetics program.
Changes in pricing
According to the order, the maximum prices for two types of prostheses will increase:
- Modular type thigh prosthesis with an electronic knee control module — the price will rise from 1.2 million UAH to 1.7 million UAH.
- Modular type prosthesis after hip joint disarticulation with an electronic knee control module — the price will rise from 1.4 million UAH to over 2.0 million UAH.
These changes were made following a detailed analysis of the cost calculations from prosthetic enterprises working with the state program for providing high-functioning prosthetics. The price increase will help ensure better quality and availability of prostheses for military personnel.
Simplification of the prosthetic socket replacement procedure
In addition, the government has recently passed a decision that significantly simplifies the process for replacing a prosthetic socket (cup socket). From now on, if the cost of replacing the socket does not exceed 15% of the prosthesis cost, the decision to replace it will be made only by the prosthetics commission at the orthopedic enterprise. This change will reduce bureaucratic barriers and simplify access to necessary medical services for military personnel.
Lifetime provision of rehabilitation aids
Military personnel with amputated limbs will also benefit from a new decision to provide lifetime support for rehabilitation aids. From now on, they will have the right to continuously replace rehabilitation aids, except for motorized wheelchairs and electric scooters. This ensures that veterans can receive the necessary aids for recovery and rehabilitation at every stage of their lives after injury.
The importance of supporting military personnel
Increasing the maximum prices for high-functioning prostheses and simplifying the prosthetic socket replacement procedures is an important part of the state’s support for military personnel who have been injured while defending the country. These measures will not only improve the quality of medical services but also provide veterans with the opportunity to return to a full life and participate actively in both social and professional activities.
The state prosthetics program provides critical support to those who have suffered severe physical injuries during the war and is another step towards improving the conditions for our military personnel and veterans.
