Overall Illness Statistics

Since the beginning of the epidemic season (from September 30 to October 20), 351,729 people in Ukraine have been infected with ARVI, influenza, and COVID-19. During this period, there were no registered deaths due to influenza complications; however, 31 fatalities from COVID-19 among adults were recorded, all of whom had not received preventive vaccinations against the coronavirus within the last 12 months.

Vaccination — Key to Prevention

Doctors emphasize that the most effective prevention against COVID-19 and influenza is annual vaccination, especially for at-risk individuals. Vaccination against influenza does not protect against COVID-19 and vice versa, but vaccinations can be administered on the same day or with a recommended interval. COVID-19 vaccinations remain free for the population, with omicron-specific Comirnaty vaccines from Pfizer being used for adults and children.

Recommendations for At-Risk Groups

Vaccination against influenza is particularly important, as severe forms of the disease can lead to serious complications, such as damage to the heart, lungs, and kidneys. The vaccine is not included in the list of free vaccinations, but it is recommended for all those working in places with large gatherings (medical staff, law enforcement, teachers), as well as for pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases, children under 5 years old, and individuals over 60.

Vaccine Availability

Influenza vaccines, produced in France and South Korea, have been available in pharmacies since early October. They are certified and have passed state quality control. As of October 20, 31,566 Ukrainians have been vaccinated against influenza.

Additionally, a vaccination campaign for medical workers is ongoing, within which 30,000 doses of influenza vaccine were distributed to all regions by October 1. As of October 20, 17,956 medical workers have received preventive vaccinations.

Conclusion

Given the rising incidence of illness, vaccination remains a crucial measure for protecting the health of the population. We encourage everyone to contact their family doctors for information and vaccination.
