Cat safety in cold weather

In cold weather, cats often seek warm and cozy places to shelter. This natural behavior helps them stay warm, but these cozy spots can be dangerous, especially when it comes to cars.

Where do cats hide?

On chilly days, cats may hide in the following places:

  • Under cars: Cats may crawl under vehicles to find shelter from the cold.
  • Under the hood: The engine can remain warm after use, making it an attractive spot for cats to seek refuge.
  • In the wheel arches: These areas can also be appealing for cats looking for warm cover.
  • In the exhaust pipe: This is particularly dangerous, as cats may not be aware of the risks.

How to prevent accidents

Before starting your engine, it’s crucial to check your car for the presence of cats. Here are a few simple steps:

  1. Tap on the hood: This can alert the cat to your intentions and give it a chance to escape.
  2. Inspect the specified areas: Carefully check under the car, under the hood, and in the wheel arches.

This will take no more than a minute, but it could save a cat’s life. Remember, cats are family members, and their safety should be a priority during cold weather.
