Under the “Medevac” program, over 5,000 Ukrainians have been evacuated for treatment abroad

Medical evacuation of injured Ukrainians to clinics in Europe and worldwide has been taking place almost weekly since the start of the full-scale war. During this time, over 5,000 Ukrainians have been evacuated via specialized medical transport.

Evacuation flights are organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the European Commission, with support from the World Health Organization, European governments, and many partners. These flights are completely free for patients, as all costs for expensive treatment are covered by the governments of the partner countries involved in the “Medevac” program.

Medical institutions in nearly 30 countries, including Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Sweden, and Austria, are providing assistance to Ukrainian patients. Both children and adults affected by shelling, as well as patients with tumors, rare diseases, and military personnel, are being sent to foreign clinics. Among those evacuated are 735 children with oncological diseases.

Doctors refer patients for treatment abroad based on clear criteria. They prepare the necessary documents for evacuation, including a medical record excerpt (form №027/о), two consents for the processing of personal data, and for military personnel, a conclusion regarding the necessity of treatment abroad.

Currently, several routes for medical evacuation are operational, including:

  • Through the regional health department.
  • By submitting a personal application via the Ministry of Health’s website in the “Citizens” section.
  • For military personnel — through the command of the Medical Forces of Ukraine.

The duration of treatment is individualized and depends on the patient’s health condition, recovery dynamics, and treatment progress.

Detailed information about the provision of medical assistance to injured Ukrainians abroad can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Health.
