A missile attack on the Mykhailo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design on 25 March left numerous works of art, possibly up to a hundred, under the rubble. The rector of the academy, Olena Osadcha, told Suspilne Culture that the rubble contains graduate theses, mostly works of decorative art, as well as graphics by Maria Kotliarevska, a student of the famous artist Ivan Padalka.
Kotliarevska’s legacy is an important part of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and represents a unique school of Boychuks. Unfortunately, despite numerous appeals to the Kyiv SES, KMVA and the Pechersk District Administration, the rubble has not been cleared, which threatens the preservation of valuable works. On 7 October, the Academy’s management again appealed for help to the Head of the Kyiv City Administration of Architecture and Construction, Serhiy Popko, and Kyiv Mayor Volodymyr Klitschko, as access to some of the premises remains blocked.
