Issues with Granting Status
Currently, there are numerous cases where the cause of disability or death for wounded or deceased servicemen is linked to injuries sustained in combat. However, according to existing legislation, only those servicemen who became disabled due to injuries, concussions, mutilations, or illnesses could receive this status.
In many cases, they were not able to obtain the status of a person with a disability due to war. Additionally, the families of fallen soldiers could not obtain the status of a family member of a deceased Defender of Ukraine.
Expected Changes
With the adoption of the new bill, the procedure for obtaining this status is expected to be simplified, positively impacting the rights and social protection of servicemen and their families. This step is crucial for recognizing their sacrifices and ensuring proper support.
The bill is now awaiting the President of Ukraine’s signature to come into effect.
