The European Union will introduce a new border control system at the borders of the Schengen countries on 10 November. According to the press service of the Ukrainian government, the EES (Entry/Exit System) will automatically record the entry and exit of all foreigners, including Ukrainians, regardless of whether they have a visa.
During the first border crossing, the system will capture biometric data: fingerprints and a photo of the face. This data will be stored for three years. In the future, every time you cross the border, you will only need to scan your passport at a self-service terminal. Passports will no longer be stamped.
It is expected that the border crossing time may increase by about 40 seconds during the first entry while the system collects biometric data. Failure to provide biometric data will result in denial of entry.
According to the government, the new system aims to simplify border crossings, increase security and help fight illegal migration and the use of fake documents.
