According to the Ministry of Environment, the situation on the Desna River has stabilised. Throughout the Chernihiv region, the water has become lighter, with no unpleasant smell or fish pestilence. The emergence of living aquatic bioresources has been observed. No pollution has been recorded in the Kyiv region, although dark sediment remains on the river bottom in some places.
Unfortunately, repeated pollution is being recorded on the Sejm River, which continues to move along the riverbed.
The situation on the Sejm:
Improvement: In the area of the village of Chumakove, water clarity has increased, although a yellow-green tint remains, and in some places it is greyish.
Pollution: In the villages of Mutyn and Ozarychi, the water is turbid, with chemical oxygen consumption exceeding the norm by 4.3 times. There is no dissolved oxygen.
Baturyn: There is a darkening of the water and a slight specific smell, but no fish pestilence has been recorded. Chemical oxygen consumption exceeds the norm by 1.1 times. The oxygen regime is normal. The manganese content is exceeded by up to 1.3 times.
Further downstream: Water quality indicators remain stable. The water is clear, there is practically no sediment at the bottom, there is no unpleasant odour, and no fish pestilence is observed.
Further monitoring of water quality is underway and measures are being taken to minimise the effects of pollution.
