The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine hosted a meeting with representatives of business, the Ukrainian Climate Office and the Chapter Zero Ukraine & Caucasus Initiative. The participants discussed Ukraine’s integration into global efforts to combat climate change, the impact of EU climate policy on national business, and the importance of international climate action for business.

The key conclusion of the meeting was the realisation that business should play a leading role in climate change processes. Deputy Minister Viktoria Kireeva emphasised the importance of business investment in the environment to ensure the long-term sustainability of the economy and create new markets.
The participants also discussed emission reductions, the EU’s experience in climate policy and the importance of business participation in international climate negotiations. Arvid Turkner, EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova, stressed that corporate climate governance and consideration of transition risks will help change business models and increase the resilience of Ukrainian businesses.
Julia Jesson, UCO, GIZ, Project Leader of the Capacities for Climate Action project, noted that the transition to carbon neutrality requires businesses to be constantly informed and adapt to increase resilience and reduce risks.
