The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reports that as of September 19, the water quality situation in the Desna River in the Kyiv region remains within normal limits. According to Kyivvodokanal, the chemical oxygen demand at the water intake point in Brovary is 32.02 milligrams per cubic decimeter, exceeding the norm of 30 milligrams. In Kyiv, this value is lower at 20.76 milligrams per cubic decimeter, while dissolved oxygen meets the norm at 6.02 milligrams.

It is important to note that the analyses showed no exceedances in pesticide levels, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, or heavy metals. Additionally, no cases of fish mortality were recorded, and there were no exceedances in ammonium nitrogen, nitrites, or chlorides.
Water Quality in the Seim River
In the Seim River, which flows through the Sumy region, there is a noticeable deterioration in water quality, particularly in the upper monitoring points. The worst indicators are found between the villages of Pruди and Mutin, where the chemical oxygen demand has dropped to 112 milligrams per cubic decimeter, and dissolved oxygen remains low at 0.14-0.34 milligrams per cubic decimeter. The likely source of pollution is the territory of Russia.
In the Chernihiv region, an improvement in water quality in the Seim River has been observed. All measured indicators are within regulatory limits, except for manganese at the Baturyn point, where it exceeds the norm by 1.2 times. Here, dissolved oxygen is 7 milligrams per cubic decimeter, while the chemical oxygen demand ranges from 26 to 26.7 milligrams.
Improvement of Water Quality in the Desna River
In the Chernihiv region, the water quality of the Desna River has also improved across all monitoring points. Dissolved oxygen levels are within normal limits, and in the town of Oster, the chemical oxygen demand is 33 milligrams per cubic decimeter. The levels of ammonium nitrogen, manganese, nitrites, phosphates, and chlorides do not exceed regulatory values.
