The list of applicant categories for compensation in the international Register of Damages will be expanded

The list of applicant categories for compensation in the international Register of Damages will be expanded. This issue was discussed at a meeting on internally displaced persons chaired by Irina Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Participants at the meeting heard a presentation from the Head of the Kyiv office of the Register of Damages caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The report covered the functioning of the Register and the formation of an international mechanism for obtaining compensation in the future.

It was noted that the Register Council recently approved forms and submission rules for 16 new categories of damage claims from individuals affected by Russian aggression. Among the new categories are individuals who have experienced forced displacement beyond Ukraine, unlawful detention, forced labor, violent relocation or deportation, as well as loss of housing or residence.

The forms and rules for these new categories will be opened for submission after approval by the Conference of Register Participants and their technical implementation.

The speaker also reminded that the Conference of Register Participants has already approved 13 claim forms across various categories. Twelve of these are currently undergoing technical implementation for access through the Diia web portal.

As of April 2024, the Register of Damages for Ukraine is already accepting claims from citizens in one category—regarding damage or destruction of residential real estate.
