Germany has announced the allocation of 20 million euros to support internally displaced persons, returning Ukrainians, and host communities in Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions. This funding will aid economic recovery and support local communities affected by the conflict, as reported by the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine.
Project “Viability+: Economic Integration of Internally Displaced Persons and Conflict-Affected Individuals”
The funding is part of the “Viability+” project, which is implemented by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the support of the German Development Bank (KfW) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ).
Support for Business and Economic Development
The project plans to provide grants to support and rebuild businesses in the affected regions:
- 150 grants of up to 7,000 euros for microenterprises.
- 90 grants of up to 20,000 euros for small businesses.
- 45 grants of up to 15,000 euros for startup microenterprises.
Additionally, 4 economic clusters will receive grants of up to 80,000 euros to enhance product competitiveness, stimulate exports, and foster regional economic development.
Educational Programs and Vocational Training
The project also includes support for training for internally displaced persons, returning Ukrainians, youth, women, and other community members in the three regions:
- 500 individuals will receive vouchers of up to 1,000 euros for educational and vocational courses to enhance their qualifications.
Restoration of Social Infrastructure
The project encompasses measures to restore and strengthen social resilience in Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions, including:
- Rebuilding economic infrastructure facilities.
- Establishing a network of hubs and sub-hubs.
