What is “Ukraine is next door”?

“Ukraine Next Door” on Google Arts & Culture is a long-term initiative to digitize and disseminate Ukraine’s vivid cultural history, which has expanded significantly since it was first introduced two years ago.

Through partnerships with the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Ukraine House, Skeiron, and the best Ukrainian museums, the Ukraine Next Door project offers an innovative and engaging way to explore authentic stories of Ukraine’s heritage.

“At a time when Ukraine is going through its most difficult challenges, our culture remains our strength and inspiration. The “Ukraine Next Door” project on Google Arts & Culture gives everyone the opportunity to discover outstanding Ukrainians who have made our land famous around the world: Mykhola Leontovych, Solomiya Krushelnytska, Maria Pryimachenko, Kateryna Bilour and many others. Today, when Russian occupiers are trying to destroy our heritage, this project is especially important. It not only preserves Ukrainian culture, but also popularizes it in the world. So let’s showcase Ukraine’s race — its art, history, and traditions — to the world together, because they are our strength and identity,” said First Lady Olena Zelenska.

What’s new in the project

  • more than 1000 new images,
  • more than 90 new stories,
  • more than 250 3D models of museum artifacts and memorabilia,
  • 3600 videos with theatrical performances,
  • 3 new virtual galleries,
  • 5 new Ukrainian partners joined the project
