The Ministry of Health of Ukraine continues to coordinate the medical evacuation of affected citizens for treatment abroad

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in collaboration with the European Commission, WHO, European governments, and numerous partners, continues to coordinate the transportation of affected Ukrainians for treatment abroad. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, medical evacuations of patients have been occurring almost weekly. To date, 5,276 Ukrainians have been evacuated using specialized medical transport.

Receiving Ukrainians in European Countries


Over 30 countries have accepted Ukrainians for treatment, including Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, and others. Germany (1,306 people), Poland (428 people), and Norway (379 people) are the leading countries in terms of the number of evacuations conducted.

Medical Evacuation Includes


Medical evacuation covers both children and adults affected by shelling, patients with tumors, rare diseases, as well as military personnel.

Procedure for Referral to Treatment


To refer patients for treatment abroad, the attending or family doctor must direct the patient based on established criteria. To confirm the criteria, a completed form № 027/o “Medical Record Summary” is required. Military personnel must obtain a conclusion regarding the need for treatment abroad, which is filled out and signed by a doctor or medical director of the hospital.

Medical evacuation can be carried out through several routes:

Medical evacuation for Ukrainian patients is free of charge. All treatment costs are covered by the governments of the partner countries in the Medevac program.
