Letter from Ukrainian journalist Vladyslav Holovyn to his son included in the book Letters to Our Sons (“Letters to Our Sons”), compiled by British actor Steven Gerrard and psychologist Orli Klein.

Gerrard and Klein invited fathers to write to their sons about what it means to be a man, and to put on paper what they did not dare say aloud. Publishers received over 1,600 texts from men around the world.

Holovyn wrote his letter over a week. In it he told his son about the fear of not having enough time to say the most important things, the distance of over 2,000 kilometres between them, and the reasons why he stayed in Ukraine.

I wrote my letter over a week. I wrote, reread, and rewrote. And gradually I understood that I was writing it not only for my son. This text was also needed for me myself.

– Vladyslav.

The book was released by Bloomsbury in print and audio formats. Its authors include doctors, builders, prisoners, and well-known Britons, including director Louis Tere, Olympic champion Tom Daily, musician Goldie, and actor Riz Ahmed.

Holovyn hopes that next year the collection will be translated into Ukrainian.
