Military Spouses Transform Bukovyna Fruit Orchards into a Charitable Business

In the village of Toporivtsi, Chernivtsi region, spouses of servicemen established the social enterprise “SadOk”. The women produce pastila and other craft products. All profits from sales go to supporting children of Ukrainian defenders.

The project launched after the team trained at the educational “School of Responsible Service”. The idea’s author, Ulyana Papushchak, explains the niche choice by the availability of local resources: the community has many fruit orchards and a strong motivation to help military families. This allowed a local initiative to become a sustainable business. The enterprise provides jobs for local residents and develops the region’s economy.

The educational program helped the women structure their work. After a successful pitch, the team received funding to launch. Participants learned to plan activities and allocate responsibilities in production. Now each sold package of pastila acts as a steady contribution to charity.

The founders plan to expand the assortment and find new sales points. Business growth will enable funding more initiatives for military families. Meanwhile, the organizers of the “School of Responsible Service” are preparing for a new cohort of participants. Registration for future social entrepreneurs opens in September.
