The Danish Cultural Institute is launching an online photography school for practitioners from Ukraine and five other countries in the region. Two Ukrainian photographers will be trained in portraiture, ethical shooting, and visual storytelling by Danish portraitist Martin Taulov.
The format focuses on practical work rather than lectures – participants shoot, show unfinished work, receive specific feedback, and shoot again. The program covers 12 online sessions, a field shoot, individual mentoring, and a personal portrait session.
The common theme for all six participating countries is space and place, particularly how cultural spaces reflect the social and political reality of the region.
Training is conducted in English without translation and runs from mid‑September to the end of November. Participants will need a camera with manual control, a flash with a trigger, and a light stand.
Photographers are invited to join if they have at least one completed photo project, work confidently in manual camera mode, communicate fluently in English, and are ready to showcase unfinished work.
Participants will receive mentoring from Martin Taulov, a personal portrait session, and financial support for the field shoot. The program also includes a network of photographers from six countries and participation in a joint final publication.
Info session for interested parties will take place on September 9 at 17:30 CEST, where organizers will provide more details about the program and introduce participants to Martin Taulov. Applications are accepted until September 15, 2026, at 23:59 CEST – which is 00:59 on September 16 Kyiv time.
